Learning His Craft fact, Piero de’ Medici fell from power within a matter of months. When the Medici family was driven from Florence into exile, in 1494, Michelangelo decided to go with them to live in Bologna, another Italian city-state. He stayed for about a year, in the house of a nobleman, a friend of the Medicis’.
