This book seeks to explore Canadian television within the realm of television studies, as opposed to being a book about Canadian national identity that happens to have television as its focus. The existing literature in Canadian television studies, as already outlined, has effectively established and explored central issues of national culture. Clearly any collection with a national focus must address questions of nation and identity, but here they appear among several thematic currents rather than as the primary issue.

During that period “swinging” London from 1966 to 1968 was an education in itself, with its riches of films, art galleries, theatre, and the other arts as well as the British Museum.
